At least three people, including a child, were killed in an overnight Russian missile attack on the outskirts of Kyiv.
The strikes occurred in the early hours of Saturday, on the eastern side of the capital, and witnesses reported powerful explosions days after a series of attacks across Ukraine that killed 21 people.
Falling debris damaged apartment buildings and cars; a building caught fire as confirmed by the regional military administration. The head of the administration, Timur Tkachenko, said three others were wounded.
Emergency crews fought fires at a building and a fuel tank in Kyiv, as Mayor Vitaly Klitchko wrote on Telegram. Ukrainians‑state emergency service DSNS posted photos of garages, a business and a building ablaze, noting the victim count was still being clarified.
President Volodymyr Zelensky arrived in Serbia for his first visit after warning that Ukraine’s limited interceptor stocks were weakening defence against Russian ballistic missile attacks. He said delays in receiving interceptor systems caused “horrific casualties and destruction” and that stronger defences could have saved lives.
The leader added that the supply of interceptors from allies had been “significantly reduced” this year. He also highlighted the strike on two oil refineries deep inside Russian territory, intended to curb oil revenues used to finance the war.
The latest attack underscores the escalating violence amid faltering mediation talks between the two sides.
