Russian attacks kill 12 in Kyiv

At least 12 people were killed and 20 injured during overnight Russian missile and drone strikes on Ukraine's capital Kyiv, Kyiv officials said.

Six of the victims were rail workers at the state rail company Ukrzaliznytsia when a depot in the city was hit.

Russia described the offensive as a massive precision strike aimed at military and energy sites, adding that it had struck a target in the Belgorod region, killing one person.

The attacks come after Indian prime minister Narendra Modi urged Russia's president Vladimir Putin to end the war, a plea that Russia has ignored.

Emergency services and rescue crews were on scene around the clock as police and soldiers dealt with fires, shattered windows and debris across the city.

Additional strikes hit the town of Boryspil, killing four people in a residential building, and a major Russian port in Ust‑Luga, triggering fire.
