Yung Filly Set for Retrial Over Rape Charges After Split Verdict
The YouTuber, known by the stage name Yung Filly, will return to the Perth court to face a retrial on three rape charges that were part of a broader set of accusations. The charges stem from an alleged incident in a hotel room following a 2024 nightclub performance, an event in which the artist remains a central figure of legal scrutiny.
He denied all 10 charges. The last month’s jury cleared him of three counts of rape, one assault charge and an alleged strangulation. However, the jury concluded he was guilty of two separate assault counts, for which he will be sentenced after the retrial.
Barrientos, who was born in Colombia and brought up in the United Kingdom, was touring Australia when the alleged victim reported the assault while they were in his hotel room. Court documents noted initial consensual activity before the accuser claimed that violence was enforced and her pleas to stop were ignored.
The upcoming court session on 27 August will address a motion to revise his bail status, but a definitive retrial date remains unannounced. The prosecution has reiterated that the complainant is ready to testify again, citing a determination to reinforce the facts against the artist.
During testimony, Barrientos described how he first “fancied” the figure at a concert venue and later asserted that the atmosphere was positive when they later convened at his hotel. His defense has challenged the alleged victim’s statements as replete with inconsistencies and outright falsehoods.
