Australian shark attack victim grateful for a second chance at life

Leah Stewart, 34, survived a dramatic shark bite at Coogee Beach in June that left her with multiple fractures, an amputated arm, and months in an induced coma.

She expressed her heartfelt thanks to friends, family and strangers who raised more than AU$550,000 for her treatment, allowing recovery in a home environment and future medical options.

I still have a long way to go, but my recovery has been remarkable – and a huge part of that is because of the love, support, prayers and encouragement surrounding my family and me from all over the world, she wrote.

In an upcoming interview with Nine Network's 60 Minutes, Stewart will recount seeing the shark’s “horrific” face and her emotional determination to protect her daughter.
