In brief
Anadolu Agency reports that overnight Russian strikes injured nine civilians in Kyiv and damaged bridges and energy facilities. Both sides blame each other for targeting civilian infrastructure. The attacks precede U.S.-mediated peace talks in Abu Dhabi.
On Saturday, overnight Russian airstrikes struck Kyiv, injuries were reported to a total of nine civilians, prosecutors said, according to the State Emergency Service (DSNS) as covered by Anadolu Agency.
Initial reports from DSNS indicated three people injured when missiles hit residential buildings, a kindergarten and a non‑residential building in Kyiv’s Solomianskyi district; a later update brought the number to six and added damage in the Darnytskyi and Sviatoshynskyi districts.
Kyiv mayor Vitali Klitschko said the city was hit with ballistic missiles that damaged civilian infrastructure; he added that energy facilities in the Kyiv and Zhytomyr regions had been damaged, which was affecting the city’s heating and water supply systems “extremely.
Klitschko also reported its Pivnichnyi Bridge sustained damage during the overnight attack, forcing traffic closures while specialists assessed the extent of the work.
Head of the Kyiv Regional Military Administration, Tymur Tkachenko, said a person was killed in the broader region surrounding the Ukrainian capital in response to strikes that had targeted five districts; he added that twelve other regions were also attacked.
Ukrainian president Volodymyr Zelenskyy posted on the U.S. social media platform X that nine people had been injured in the strikes, claiming Russia used 172 drones and 36 ballistic missiles during the attacks. He warned that “when Russia is trying to plunge Kyiv – a city of millions – and the entire country into a blackout, Ukraine must not.
Both sides have accused the other of deliberate targeting of civilian infrastructure, with Russia treating Ukrainian attacks as damaging residential infrastructure, warehouses and production facilities in multiple regions, while Ukrainian officials contend that Russia’s strikes damaged bridges and energy facilities in the capital.
These tensions come amid mounting pressure for U.S.–mediated peace talks in Abu Dhabi, with leaders from both sides reportedly seeking to avoid escalation as they prepare to meet in the neutral venue.
