In brief

On November 2, 2026, the Medina education authority announced the opening of registration for the Kaostat Mathematics Competition, a three‑track contest for grades six through twelve organized by KAUST. Registration will close on December 12, 2026, with qualifying rounds held on January 23, 2027, and finals scheduled for April 2–4, 2027 at KAUST.

The General Administration of Education in Medina announced the launch of registration for the Kaostat Mathematics Competition, an event organized by King Abdullah University of Science and Technology (KAUST) to develop higher‑order thinking skills among Saudi students and identify mathematically talented learners.

The announcement was issued at a press release on November 2, 2026, with the organization citing its aim to "develop higher‑order thinking skills" and "discover student talent in mathematics." Reuters noted that the announcement came from the General Administration of Education in the Medina Region, while the Saudi Press Agency reported the same news under the label of General Administration of Education in Madinah Region.

The contest targets Saudi citizens and residents enrolled in public, private, and international schools across grades six to twelve. It is divided into three tracks: grades six and seven, grades eight and nine, and grades ten and eleven. The competition also differentiates between the youngest participants, the "shores of children", the middle grade “new buds”, and the older groups that form the “young adults” group – an arrangement described in the press release and echoed in the media coverage.

Registration for the competition opens immediately and will close on December 12, 2026. Test centres will be announced after the registration period ends, and participants will receive information about the location of their qualifying tests.

The first stage, a qualifying round, will be conducted as an in‑person written test on January 23, 2027. According to the news reports, the test will determine the participants who will advance to the final stage of the competition.

The final competition will take place at KAUST from April 2 to April 4, 2027. Saudi Press Agency said the finals are scheduled there, and the competition organizers confirmed that the venue will be the campus of King Abdullah University of Science and Technology, located east of Riyadh in the Eastern Province.

The competition is intended to foster academic excellence and higher‑level mathematical thinking in the region. Both sources – the Saudi Press Agency’s reports for Medina and Madinah Region – emphasise the educational benefits and the opportunity to discover mathematically talented students across Saudi Arabia.
