MELBOURNE, Nov. 2 – Two men died after a collision between a car and a motorcycle at an intersection in Brighton East, 12 kilometres southeast of central Melbourne, on Sunday night, a report from Xinhua said.
According to a statement released by Victoria Police to Xinhua, emergency services were dispatched to the scene at about 6:30 p.m. The car driver and the motorcyclist were pronounced dead at the site, while a child passenger in the car was transported to hospital with minor injuries.
Earlier on Saturday afternoon, a 75‑year‑old female pedestrian was killed in the state's southwest after she was struck by a vehicle, Xinhua reported, noting that this added to the weekend’s toll of eight fatalities in Victoria.
Later that afternoon, police recorded that two teenagers were injured when the e‑bike they were riding collided with a car in the suburbs of Geelong, 65 kilometres southwest of Melbourne, according to Xinhua. The male passenger was airlifted to hospital with life‑threatening injuries, while the 17‑year‑old male was taken to hospital with injuries not deemed life‑threatening.
Xinhua also cited official data showing that, as of Saturday, there had been 220 road deaths in Victoria this year, down from 247 at the same point last year.
During the weekend, police said that of the eight deceased, four were riding motorcycles and three were driving cars, while the remaining fatality was the pedestrian.
These incidents bring Victoria’s 2026 road death toll to 220, marking a decline from last year’s 247 deaths and underscoring ongoing safety challenges on the state’s roads.
