25 Years Later: NT Police Unveil New Photographs of Peter Falconio Murder

Northern Territory Police have released a series of unseen photographs from the 2001 murder of British backpacker Peter Falconio, in an effort to bring fresh leads to a case that has felt cold for 25 years.

The images include shots of the orange Volkswagen Kombi van the victim and his partner were driving, the crime scene itself, and several instances of Joanne Lees’ injuries after her escape. Police hope that the bleak visuals could jog someone’s memory or prompt a tip that would finally lead to Falconio’s body.

Commissioner Martin Dole said the 25‑year milestone demands every possible avenue be pursued, stating, “This investigation can never be considered closed until Peter’s remains are found and his family can lay him to rest.”

Bradley Murdoch, the man convicted of the murder, died of throat cancer in 2024 without revealing the body’s location. A reward of up to A$500,000 is now on offer for any information that leads to a discovery.
