In brief

In Dandenong, southeast Melbourne, three people were cut by a knife on Friday morning, leading to two serious hospitalisations and one life‑threatening case. Police say the victims know each other and detectives have opened an investigation. A nearby primary school briefly entered lockdown while emergency services responded.

Three people were taken to hospital after a stabbing in the southeast Melbourne suburb of Dandenong on Friday morning, with one female victim suffering life‑threatening injuries, Xinhua reported on November 6, 2026.

The incident occurred near a primary school about 29 kilometres south‑east of Melbourne’s central business district, with emergency services being called at approximately 11:30 a.m.

The 28‑year‑old woman was admitted with serious, life‑threatening injuries, while a 26‑year‑old man and a 35‑year‑old man were hospitalized with injuries described as serious but not life‑threatening, according to police statements.

Police said the three injured were believed to be acquainted with each other. No other individuals are being sought in connection with the attack, the statement added.

Acting Inspector Rebecca Hall told reporters on the scene that a nearby primary school had briefly entered lockdown while emergency crews responded. She said, "My understanding is that the children were inside the school at the time and were prevented from coming to the street and so did not witness anything."

Detectives from the family violence unit, as reported by police, have commenced an investigation into the attacks, the Xinhua story noted.

Local residents were evacuated from the immediate vicinity as officers and paramedics worked to triage the victims, a move reported by community bulletins on the scene.

The police liaison at the scene emphasised that the investigation was focused on the known relationship between the victims and that no broader suspect group was under consideration, consistent with the initial police response.

The school, which temporarily closed its gates, reopened later that afternoon once emergency services had confirmed the area was cleared, according to school officials who spoke to reporters on site.

The families of the injured remain in the hospital as of the latest updates from hospital staff, who declined to name the victims. The medical officer on duty at the local hospital confirmed the severity of the injuries in a statement to reporters yesterday afternoon.

Police and emergency crews continued to sweep the surrounding area for safety and to secure any evidence related to the incident, as per standard investigative procedures outlined by regional authorities.

As of late Saturday, no further details regarding the motive behind the assault have been made public, and the community is awaiting additional findings from the ongoing investigation.
