A Qatari LNG carrier was struck by unidentified objects in the Arabian Gulf on Friday evening, with no injuries reported, Qatar Gas Transport Company said Sunday.
The vessel, named Al Mayeda, was transiting the Arabian Gulf when the unidentified objects hit it late on Friday night. The company stated that the ship remained in safe operating condition after the impact.
Qatar Gas Transport Company released a statement Sunday confirming the incident.
"The vessel remained in safe operational condition and the impact of the incident is still being assessed," the company said.
No environmental damage has been reported. The statement added that no injuries had been sustained by the crew and that the ship’s cargo and containment systems had not been compromised.
According to the company, it is coordinating directly with the vessel, its crew, and relevant maritime security authorities in the region to ensure the crew’s safety and monitor developments. The nature or origin of the objects that struck the vessel was not disclosed.
The incident occurred off the coast of Doha, where the ship was making routine movements through the Arabian Gulf on a commercial route. The company said that the ship’s navigation and communication systems remained fully operational after the incident.
Maritime security agencies in the Gulf are monitoring the situation closely. No further details about the possible cause or source of the objects are available at this time.
The situation remains under assessment as authorities work to determine whether further protective measures are required for other vessels in the area. The incident has drawn attention to the need for ongoing vigilance in the busy shipping lanes of the Arabian Gulf.
As of now, Qatar Gas Transport Company continues to monitor the condition of Al Mayeda and will provide updates as more information becomes available.
