On Thursday, China and Nigeria signed a $30 million grant to fund small‑scale development projects across Nigeria, building on an earlier 200 million‑yuan grant. Chinese Ambassador Yu Dunhai described the aid as "small but beautiful" projects that deliver quick results, while Nigerian Minister Abubakar Bagudu praised the agreement as evidence of strong bilateral ties and the Nigerian government's commitment to grassroots poverty reduction.
In Abuja on Thursday, China and Nigeria signed a $30 million grant agreement to support small‑scale development projects across Nigeria, officials said, following an earlier 200 million‑yuan contribution.
The ceremony was held inside the Nigerian Ministry of Budget and Economic Planning, where the signing marked a continuation of China’s investment in Nigeria’s economic and social development.
Chinese Ambassador to Nigeria Yu Dunhai explained that China had recently granted 200 million yuan—about 29.79 million U.S. dollars—to fund projects that would directly benefit Nigerians.
“The grant will support small but beautiful projects requiring limited investment, delivering quick results and improving people’s livelihoods,” said Yu.

Nigeria’s Minister of Budget and Economic Planning, Abubakar Bagudu, expressed deep appreciation for China’s continued support, describing the agreement as "evidence of strong bilateral relations and shared development objectives" between the two countries.
Bagudu highlighted that over 8,809 grassroots interventions have been recorded under the economic support program, underscoring Nigeria’s efforts to tackle poverty at the community level.
The Guardian also reported that China and Nigeria signed a RMB 200 million (about $30 million) grant agreement to finance local development projects, confirming the details of the deal announced by Xinhua.
The partnership reflects a broader strategy to share China’s poverty‑alleviation experience with Nigeria, aiming to accelerate national development through targeted, low‑investment projects that can quickly benefit local communities.
