The ninth China International Import Expo, held in Shanghai from Nov. 5‑10, was hailed by Cambodia’s Ministry of Commerce as a pivotal platform for trade liberalization. Officials underscored its role in opening China’s market to global partners and strengthening economic resilience. The expo attracted over 4,100 exhibitors and was celebrated as a win‑win opportunity for international collaboration.

In Shanghai, China’s ninth annual Import Expo attracted more than 4,100 international exhibitors and served as a focal point for discussions on open trade, according to a release from Cambodia’s Ministry of Commerce issued on Friday.

Undersecretary of State Nam Lynal of the Cambodian Ministry of Commerce was present at the opening ceremony on Thursday, where officials welcomed delegates from around the world and reiterated the country’s commitment to strengthening economic ties with China.

The event, which ran from November 5 to November 10, was described by the ministry as a “crucial platform for trade liberalization and global economic cooperation,” a statement that echoed the broader aims of the International Relations Institute of Cambodia at the Royal Academy of Cambodia.

Kin Phea, director general of the institute, told Xinhua that the expo “highlights the potential for China’s Chinese market to open more widely to the world.” He added that the exhibition “provides an avenue for global enterprises to connect with Chinese consumers for mutual benefit and win‑win cooperation.

Emphasizing the urgency of cooperative trade in a period of rising anti‑globalization sentiment and economic uncertainty, Phea said: "China’s continued hosting of the landmark expo underscores its commitment to high‑standard opening‑up, injecting much‑needed stability into global trade. As a vital bridge for international economic and trade cooperation, the expo transforms market potential into shared progress, demonstrating that true economic resilience is built through collaboration, not isolation."

In a related statement, the ministry noted that the expo offers a practical avenue for Cambodia to expand its trade network, capitalizing on the diverse range of products and services presented by the participants.

Experts point out that the Shanghai exhibition reaches beyond conventional markets, creating opportunities for emerging economies to showcase innovations and attract foreign investment. The expo’s scale, featuring a multitude of exhibitors from varied sectors—ranging from consumer goods to high‑technology—positions it as a significant driver of economic integration.

As the international community monitors developments in global trade policy, the Cambodian government’s endorsement of the expo signals a collective push toward more open markets and collaborative growth. The event’s outcomes are expected to influence trade negotiations and investment strategies in the years ahead.
