Vice President John D. Vance announced on social media that his wife Usha had welcomed their fourth child, a healthy boy named Alec Neel Vance, on Sunday morning in Washington, D.C.
The newborn and Usha are “happy and healthy,” the vice‑president said, adding that the other children—Ewan (9), Vivek (6) and Mirabel (4)—were “overjoyed” to meet their little brother. JD thanked the doctors and staff at Walter Reed Medical Center for their care.
It is the first time a baby has been born to a sitting vice‑president in more than 150 years, the Associated Press reported. President Donald Trump offered congratulations in a tweet, praising the “perfect baby boy” for the Vance family.
Usha, originally from San Diego and studied at Yale Law School, met JD in 2010. According to JD’s new book, after the tragic death of conservative influencer Charlie Kirk, Usha’s mindset shifted toward family growth.
“Not long after we buried my friend,’ he wrote, ‘she became pregnant with our fourth child, a boy. One life was stolen from us, but another was given.”
Internationally, the Vances recently toured India, photographing family moments at the Taj Mahal, underscoring their multi‑cultural identity.
