At least two killed in Toronto street festival shooting

At least two people were killed and several others wounded in a shooting at the annual Salsa on St Clair Latin Festival on St Clair Avenue in Toronto, Canada.

Police received an active‑shooter report around 20:12 local time and later found six victims with gunshot wounds. Two of the victims later died at the scene.

Authorities confirmed that an exchange of fire occurred between two individuals, and two firearms were recovered from the scene, but no arrests have been made yet.

Deputy Police Chief Francisco Barredo described the scene as “very chaotic” and noted that about 13,000 people attended the festival when the shooting occurred.

Police are managing three separate crime scenes related to the shooting, and the public will be updated as the investigation continues. Officials urged witnesses to come forward.

Prime Minister Mark Carney said he was “horrified” by the shooting, offering prayers for the victims, their families and those in critical condition. Premier Doug Ford condemned the “senseless violence”, demanded the perpetrator be brought to justice, and thanked first responders for their efforts.

The festival, which marks the 22nd iteration of the Salsa on St Clair Latin celebration, was taking place in Midtown Toronto’s bustling street lined with shops and restaurants.
