In brief
French police have postponed the PSG‑Lyon game, originally on Sunday, to Monday 20:30 to clear the way for a security‑heavy weekend of protests. The clash will now run concurrently with the Ballon‑d’Or ceremony in London. Rising fuel prices and cost‑of‑living concerns sparked last week’s hundreds‑of‑thousands march across Paris. The national football calendar has already been affected: Toulouse’s home match moved to Sunday. PSG are second in the league, while Lyon lead with 14 points.
The Ligue 1 clash between Paris Saint‑Germain and Lyon has been moved 24 hours to Monday after French authorities set up a large-scale security operation for the weekend’s demonstrations.
The game, originally scheduled to kick off at 19:45 GMT on Sunday at the Parc des Princes, will now take place at 20:30 on Monday 26 October.
Police had prohibited the match at the original date to avoid clashes with protests that drew more than 550,000 people in Paris, attacking rising fuel prices, education standards and the cost of living after weeks of student demonstrations.
The security challenge is compounded by an NFL match in Saint‑Denis and by the Ballon‑d’Or ceremony taking place in London on the same day.
Other fixtures are already impacted – Toulouse’s home tie against Troyes has been moved from Saturday to Sunday at the request of authorities.
Standing tables see PSG second after seven matches, while Lyon lead with 14 points and a superior goal difference.
