Police recovered three valuable paintings that were stolen from Italy’s Magnani Rocca Museum in Parma on 22 March. The artworks, including pieces by Cézanne, Renoir and Matisse, are estimated to be worth a combined €9 million (£7.8 million).
CCTV footage released by authorities shows two masked thieves breaking into the museum on the evening of the 22nd, taking the artworks from their display. Police used the footage to identify and track the suspects.
Police confirmed that the paintings were recovered during a subsequent search of the museum and surrounding area, but the statement offered no further details on how the protagonists were apprehended.
The theft has been widely reported and has stirred concern over the security measures at cultural institutions across Italy.
