Bronze Age Heist: Spanish Museum Loses Gold Treasures in Blitz Raid

The Villena Museum in Alicante fell victim to a four‑minute burglary that stole its prized gold rings, bowls and bracelets from the Bronze Age Treasure of Villena.

Police are still tallying the exact number of pieces taken, but the museum confirmed that gold, silver, iron and amber artefacts were among the items removed.

The theft unfolded in the early hours of Friday when the museum’s alarm triggered at 05:20. Footage shows the robbers cutting through the high‑security room, swiping the precious collections and leaving the building before the authorities arrived.

Villena’s mayor said the robbery stripped most of the treasure, describing it as a devastating blow to the city’s heritage.

The incident follows a wave of recent museum heists in Europe, including the Louvre in Paris last year and a theft of Renaissance works in Sicily.
