Amsterdam’s Canal Light‑Fest: WorldPride Boat Parade Draws Thousands
On Saturday, the Dutch capital’s historic canals swirled with color and music, as visitors from around the world turned out to watch the annual Pride boat parade.
The WorldPride event drew a tens‑of‑thousands crowd, with eighty vessels decorated in rainbow flags, glitter and LED displays forming a luminous flotilla that charted the city’s waterways.
While the festive atmosphere dominated, heightened police presence was evident: motorboats in patrol gear escorted the parade, a response to the deadly attack at a Pride event in Berlin a week earlier that claimed one life and left at least 29 injured.
In the metaverse, observers can now experience the parade from any canal angle, walking along the water with avatars that mirror the real‑world excitement, blending digital interaction with historic tradition.
