In brief

The Saudi Press Agency released a profile on November 1, 2026 that spotlights Al‑Rass Governorate’s historic landmarks, agricultural heritage, and newly opened recreational facilities. Professor Suleiman Al‑Atni of Qassim University praised sites such as the Al‑Shanana Tower and the Kingdom of Kinda location, while the governorate emphasized its new Al‑Rass Airport and park developments as drivers of cultural tourism and economic growth.

Al‑Rass Governorate, located in the western part of the Qassim Region about 90 kilometers from Buraidah, highlighted its historic landmarks, heritage sites and natural attractions in a profile released on November 1, 2026, according to the Saudi Press Agency.

In comments to the agency, Qassim University history professor Suleiman Al‑Atni identified key sites that underscore the governorate’s long‑standing link to agriculture, trade and the First Saudi State. He pointed to the Al‑Rass trench and the Al‑Shanana Tower, the latter standing in western Al‑Rass as a prominent example of traditional Najdi architecture.

Further east, the historic Athlah Palace offers another testament to local craftsmanship. To the north, the site of the Kingdom of Kinda in Batn Aqil provides a glimpse of pre‑Islamic Arab history and is highlighted for its archaeological significance, calling for continued study and preservation efforts.

Natural Resources and Community Heritage

Al‑Rass also embraces natural attractions tied to the region’s agricultural foundations. Milh al‑Juraif, located south of the governorate, is noted for its salt deposits and their traditional uses. The governorate’s profile stresses how these sites relate to local community practices and the environment.

The profile also investigated newer recreational venues that form part of a modern tourism strategy. Parks such as Al‑Mahfal, Al‑Shorouq and Al‑Shabab provide green spaces that enhance residents’ quality of life and attract visitors seeking nature within the historical corridor.

Among the most recent additions to Al‑Rass’s tourism portfolio is Al‑Rass Airport, which opened in 2024 as the Saudi Aviation Club’s third airport. The airport hosts facilities for sport aviation, paragliding and skydiving, expanding the governorate’s recreational offerings and creating new opportunities for visitors and local entrepreneurs.

The governorate’s commitment to Vision 2030 is evident in its blend of preservation and development. By linking the rich heritage of sites such as the Al‑Shanana Tower and the ancient Kingdom of Kinda location with contemporary attractions like the Al‑Rass Airport, Al‑Rass aims to boost cultural tourism, stimulate economic activity and improve the overall quality of life for its inhabitants.
