Five people have been killed in two separate explosions in Iran, which local officials attribute to gas leaks. The first explosion occurred in a residential building in Bandar Abbas, claiming one life and injuring 14 others, according to the local Mehr news agency.
In the city of Ahvaz, a second explosion tragically resulted in four fatalities, as reported by the state-run Tehran Times.
Amid ongoing tensions in the region, the explosions have raised alarm regarding public safety protocols. In Bandar Abbas, the blast reportedly devastated an eight-floor building, destroying two of its floors and damaging nearby vehicles and shops.
Local fire department chief, Mohammad Amin Liaqat, indicated that preliminary assessments point to a gas leak and buildup as the likely culprit behind the tragedy, promising more details as investigations progress.
In Ahvaz, emergency services successfully extracted a child trapped beneath the rubble, who was then transported for medical care. These incidents come at a time of heightened tensions due to a large US naval fleet gathering near Iran as part of geopolitical disputes over its nuclear program.
Despite the accusations and pressures from the US, Iran maintains that its nuclear advancements are peaceful, emphasizing its commitment to negotiation under conditions of trust and respect.
