Tragedy Strikes as Explosions Rock Burundi's Ammunition Depot

A series of devastating explosions at an ammunition depot in Bujumbura, Burundi, have resulted in the tragic deaths of at least four individuals, with reports indicating more fatalities could emerge. The explosions occurred late Tuesday in the Musaga suburb, reportedly due to an electrical fault, leading to widespread panic among the city's residents, which number over a million.

Witnesses described how debris was propelled more than three miles from the site, destroying numerous houses in nearby neighborhoods. Some sources have quoted security personnel stating that dozens may have perished in the blasts.

An eyewitness recounted the death of a relative detained at Mpimba Central Prison, which was also affected by the blasts. Numerous inmates are reported injured, as rescue and recovery efforts continue.

The explosions sent alarming plumes of smoke into the sky, heightening the sense of alarm among the population. As authorities continue to investigate, President Evariste Ndayishimiye shared his condolences on social media and assured the public of state support in aftermath efforts.
