Police in Toronto are investigating after a gunshot was fired at the U.S. consulate in the city, the second such incident this year.
In the early hours of Monday, an officer stationed outside the consulate heard a single gunshot and spotted a white Honda Accord running away without a licence plate.
Authorities chased the vehicle at high speed but ended the pursuit to avoid safety risks. No casualties were reported, but police recovered one shell casing and noted damage to the building’s façade.
The shooting follows March’s incident, in which Toronto police arrested three individuals linked to a broader gun‑for‑hire network.
Deputy Chief Frank Barredo described the situation as “brazen” and emphasized that the building is heavily fortified. The police are asking the public to report any information that may help identify the suspects.
Officials from the U.S. consulate thanked the police for their swift response, and a post on X praised the police work.
Investigators remain on the lookout for suspects, but so far no link has been established to the June raid that claimed a police officer’s life.
The case remains under scrutiny, with authorities calling for further information from the public to bring those responsible to justice.
