Millions see leaked copy of The Odyssey movie on X
Last weekend, a high‑quality, full‑length version of Christopher Nolan’s latest epic was uploaded to X, amassing an astonishing 2.1 million views in just a few hours before the account was swiftly suspended. The video was posted in a tweet that read, 'The full odyssey movie in a tweet, as Nolan intended'.
In the 70‑mm format Nolan was famous for, every frame was shot for an IMAX screen, which means the leaked footage holds the same sharp, luminous detail that organisers planned to showcase in cinemas. The film premiered worldwide on 14 July and has already earned about $640 million at the box office.
Universal Studios swiftly responded: 'We became aware of the unauthorised posting of the film and immediately initiated takedown protocols. We take copyright infringement seriously and will pursue all appropriate remedies to protect our content and intellectual property rights.' They said the leak is unlikely to damage the film’s commercial performance, citing the strong box‑office haul.
The incident highlights how social media can both amplify fan excitement and create unforeseen challenges for filmmakers. While the leak spurred a surge in chatter across platforms, Universal’s prompt action demonstrates how studios are tightening controls around new releases in a digital‑age environment.
