At least 22 Palestinians have been killed in a series of Israeli air strikes across northern and central Gaza, Hamas medical and civil defence officials have said. They reported strikes on five sites, including residential homes, with a senior Hamas commander among the fatalities.

The Israeli military justified the attacks as retaliation against an armed incident involving Hamas, which the group denies. Both factions have accused each other of violating the ceasefire agreed six weeks prior.

Since the ceasefire's inception, Gaza's health ministry reported over 310 Palestinian fatalities due to ongoing Israeli military actions.

The recent strikes primarily targeted Gaza City and surrounding areas, resulting in specific local casualties at various locations including densely populated areas and civilian homes.

Israeli officials claimed the bombing was necessary to counteract Hamas's actions, asserting the need for mediation to ensure compliance with the ceasefire. Meanwhile, Hamas warned against Israel's continued assaults, labeling them as a violation of the agreement and calling for urgent international intervention.

The current violence marks a grim continuation of ongoing hostilities, with the Israeli military's offensive ongoing since the Hamas-led attack on southern Israel in early October, which claimed approximately 1,200 lives.
