Nothing but mud and silt – The village swept away by deadly floods in Nepal
In the week preceding this report, catastrophic flash floods along the Nepal‑Tibet border claimed more than 1,000 lives and left nearly 4,000 people missing, according to the country’s official disaster agency.
We flew to the remote district of Betrawati, where villagers are now cautiously returning to their homes to witness the devastation: homes reduced to mud, streets buried under silt.
South‑Asia correspondent Azadeh Moshiri spoke with a local man who remains in distress, still waiting for his wife’s body to be retrieved from the flood‑filled streams as rescue crews work tirelessly to bring survivors back from the chaos.
