Dawson's Creek actors have led tributes to James Van Der Beek, who has died at the age of 48 after suffering from bowel cancer.
In a hand-written statement posted on Instagram, Katie Holmes remembered Van Der Beek and his bravery, compassion, selflessness and strength, as well as the actor's appreciation for life.
Co-star Busy Philipps wrote: James Van Der Beek was one in a billion and he will be forever missed and I don't know what else to say. I am just so so sad.
Other stars who reacted to Van Der Beek's death include Reese Witherspoon, who stated she was devastated by his death.
What an extraordinary, talented man who also showed great kindness and grace in every action, she wrote on Instagram. Praying all the angels watch over his family during this difficult time.
Van Der Beek was diagnosed with cancer in late 2023, announcing it publicly in November of the same year. He was best known for his role as Dawson Leery on the iconic television show that ran from 1998 to 2003, also featuring in films like Varsity Blues.
In her tribute, Holmes, who portrayed Joey Potter in Dawson's Creek, expressed her mourning for his loss and gratitude for his impact on her life.
I mourn this loss with a heart holding the reality of his absence and deep gratitude for his imprint of it, she said.
Philipps shared that the GoFundMe page created for Van Der Beek's family and children had raised significant funds to assist them during this challenging time.
